L\u2019oeuvre\u00a0<\/span><em>De Vleermuis<\/em><span>\u00a0(La Chauve-souris) est n\u00e9e de sa participation au projet de la capitale culturelle europ\u00e9enne 2018 \u00e0 Leeuwarden-Frysl\u00e2n aux Pays-Bas. \u00c0 cette occasion, 11 artistes furent invit\u00e9s \u00e0 cr\u00e9er 11 fontaines pour 11 villes hollandaises. La nouvelle fonte en bronze pr\u00e9sent\u00e9e sur le parvis du Petit Palais accentue l\u2019aspect purement sculptural de l\u2019oeuvre et renforce sa monumentalit\u00e9. Johan Creten explique :\u00a0<\/span><em>\u00ab En pensant \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019oeuvre, j\u2019ai eu une r\u00e9v\u00e9lation : Pourquoi ne pas permettre que l\u2019on puisse symboliquement la surmonter ? J\u2019ai donc plac\u00e9 un escalier \u00e0 l\u2019arri\u00e8re de la statue pour inviter le visiteur \u00e0 gravir la chauve-souris, comme pour se transcender \u00bb<\/em><span>.
